This magnificent sterling silver coin is from 1868-1869 A.D. Measuring 11x16mm, this coin is from the Japanese Meiji Era. This one-of-a-kind artifact is hand bezel set in 18K yellow gold with a 20-inch 14K yellow gold thin Cuban chain.
This coin is the last of samurai money. These coins are often called "samurai money" as an ode to their feudal origins. The Samurai were originally fighters that were hired to protect areas of land and property. They later branched out and became the highest sect of the caste system around 1573 AD with newly unified Japan under new leadership.
